Che cosa si dirà sulle onde gravitazionali nel workshop sul Gran Sasso Science Institute

Si terrà a L'Aquila dal 29 novembre al 1 dicembre il workshop GW170817 che riunirà la comunità scientifica italiana di "cacciatori" di onde gravitazionali e ricercatori nel campo dell'astronomia multimessaggero presso il Gran Sasso Science Institute.

GW170817 è la sigla riferita alla prima osservazione delle onde gravitazionali da un sistema binario di stelle di neutroni ottenuta il 17 agosto del 2017 grazie alla rete di rivelatori Advanced Virgo e LIGO. Questo fu il primo transitorio astrofisico osservato con entrambe le onde gravitazionali e la luce.

La comunità italiana ha svolto un ruolo chiave con l'interferometro Virgo e la campagna di osservazione elettromagnetica a più lunghezze d'onda eseguita da strutture terrestri e spaziali. Il workshop vuole riunire la comunità italiana per discutere i risultati scientifici e le prospettive scientifiche per i prossimi anni.

The future of gravitational waves and astronomy: workshop at GSSI

The GW170817 workshop will bring in L'Aquila the entire italian scientific community of "gravitational vawes hunters" and researchers in the field of multimessenger astronomy. On August 17, 2017 the first observation of gravitational-waves from a binary system of neutron stars was achieved by the Advanced Virgo and LIGO detector network. This was the first astrophysical transient observed with both gravitational waves and light. The Italian community played a key role with the Virgo interferometer and the multi-wavelength electromagnetic observational campaign performed by ground-based and space facilities. The workshop wants to bring together the Italian community to discuss the scientific results and the prospects for the upcoming years.
